BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WECT) - Boiling Spring Lakes residents are frustrated with how long it has taken for East Boiling Spring Road to be repaired.
The road has been under construction since September after it was washed out by Hurricane Florence.
Frequent travel on the narrow, residential road being used as a detour has resulted in dozens of potholes, broken mailboxes and both sides of the road are falling off.
Resident Caroline Williams is one of hundreds who drive the road every day.
“I feel bad for the people whose properties are on the road that we’ve had to do the detours on because they have kids and they’re not used to a lot of traffic," Williams said. “Their mailboxes are getting damaged and they’re having a lot of construction, which they didn’t sign up for.”
BSL City Manager Jeff Repp says the main road will be complete in the next two to three weeks.
“It was held up for a significant amount of time with the delivery of the storm drainage pipes that will be going into the road as well as the relocation of utilities," Repp said. "That all got washed out when the break occurred between Pine Lake and the big lake during the hurricane.”
The city also plans to repair the road being used as a detour once the main road is complete.
