WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - She thought she’d have to tear down her home and decades of memories made in it.
Now, it’s being repaired.
A tree fell on Amy Riggs' home during Hurricane Florence. She and her family evacuated so they weren’t home when it happened.
The fallen tree left the home severely damaged. Her neighbors started a lemonade stand to help pay to have the tree removed and one of the lemonade stand customers was the owner of a tree company who offered to remove it for free.
Crews started repairing Riggs' home last week but recent rain has caused delays. Riggs said when she first saw the damage after Florence, she didn’t think she would be able to rebuild.
The home was her grandmother’s and holds sentimental value, so needless to say, move-in day can’t come soon enough.
“There will probably be a lot of tears and a lot of excited tears just being home and just in our environment and our normal routine,” Riggs said.
She said they hope to move in by March.
