BURGAW, NC (WECT) - The annual Lighted Christmas Parade in Burgaw has been canceled because of dangerous road conditions created by winter weather, according to Tammy Proctor, tourism director with Pender County.

“It is with deep regret to cancel this year’s parade. We had 84 entries and this would have been our largest parade event to date," said Proctor in an email sent at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

WECT meteorologists forecast winter precipitation throughout the Cape Fear Region this weekend.

"Our ultimate goal is safety for all as this storm tracks into Pender County. We have conferred with our safety forces and we agree, we are canceling the parade set for 5:30 p.m. tonight,” said Proctor.

The parade will not be rescheduled, because the county schedule for police officers and firefighters is already too full, said Proctor.
