WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A Wilmington man has been charged with peeping and exposing himself in separate incidents at Independence Mall.

According to Jennifer Dandron, spokeswoman for the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded to the mall around 4:15 p.m. Thursday after receiving a report of a man peeping under bathroom stall doors.

Dandron said mall security detained Ayman Mohamed Atalla, 47, after the victim alerted officers following the incident.

Atalla is also suspected of exposing himself to a 19-year-old with special needs in the mall restroom last month.

He was charged with two counts of secret peeping and one count of second-degree trespassing. Atalla was released from jail after posting a $25,000 bond.

According to online records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety, Atalla was convicted in 2014 of secret peeping in New Hanover County.
