WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - An estimated 1,500 gallons of sewage overflowed Tuesday on Mallow Road, according to the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority.
CFPUA crews responded to the overflow just after 1:30 p.m. after a manhole ring and cover had become dislodged by storm debris clean up. Debris had fallen into the manhole, blocking the line.
The spill was stopped in just under an hour.
The sewage spilled into a drainage ditch tributary to Pages Creek.
CFPUA reported that the area has been cleaned up and the spill has been reported to the N.C. Division of Water Quality.
