Wilmington MMA fighter looking to get back on track

John Salter interview

THACKERVILLE, Okla (WECT) - Mixed martial artist John Salter jumps back into the cage Friday at Bellator 210 in Thackerville, Okla. Salter (15-4), an Alabama native who now lives in Wilmington, will face Chidi Njokuani (18-5).

“(Njokuani) is a good striker,” said Salter. “He’s very fast, kicks well and his right leg is very dangerous, so that’s something I need to watch for.”

The 6-foot-3 Njokuani has a two-inch height and five-inch reach advantage on Salter, who has been preparing against fighters Njokuani’s size.

“I train with a guy that has an 80-inch reach and another guy that has a 79-inch reach,” said Salter. “I am used to that reach. I am used to guys faster than me. I just need to get on the inside so I can do some damage.”

Salter last fought in September in a losing effort against Rafael Lovato Jr.

“I wanted to get back in the cage quickly,” said Salter. “I really didn’t take any damage in the fight so it wasn’t too bad getting back to training.”

Bellator 210 airs on the Paramount Network on Friday at 9 p.m.
