PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Some Pender County residents can soon start applying for help with paying their energy bills this winter.
Starting Dec. 3, Pender households containing a person aged 60 or older or someone receiving disability benefits and services through the state Division of Aging and Adult Services can apply for help covering the cost of heating their homes.
All households can apply from Jan. 2-March 29, 2019, according to Department of Social Services Director Wesley Stewart.
The federally-funded Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) provides eligible households with a one-time payment of $200, $300 or $400 to their heating vendor during winter months depending on the household's primary heating source.
Pender County residents must apply in person at the Pender County Department of Social Services offices at 810 South Walker Street in Burgaw from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday or at the Hampstead Annex at 15060 US Highway 17 on Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
