Body found in Hallsboro during search for missing person

Update - The body has since been identified by the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office as Austin Buck Long, according to a Facebook post by the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.

Long, 22, was a resident of the Nakina community in Columbus County and had not been seen since September 25.

Original Story - COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A body was located off of Thurman Road on Saturday while the CUE Center for Missing Person was conducting a search for a missing person in Hallsboro.

Officials with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said the identity of the body and the cause of death are pending autopsy results.

The sheriff’s office said no additional information would be released at this time.
