COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Investigators with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office seized approximately 160 gaming machines and thousands of dollars in cash after executing simultaneous search warrants at two game parlors near Whiteville Wednesday morning.
According to the a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, the establishments were both located on U.S. 701 North and were open for business prior to the raids.
Investigators seized over 65 gaming machines and approximately $18,000 in cash from the Jewel Cafe and 95 gaming machines and over $27,000 in cash from the 701 Business Center.
During the investigation, undercover agents entered the gaming establishments on several occasions and played the available games. Afterward, they were given cash payouts for their winnings, according to the sheriff’s office.
The investigation is ongoing and charges may be forthcoming.
